Can you give a brief on the program?

The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) Program in the College of Medicine at the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences offers an exciting opportunity, setting the student on a path to a fulfilling and successful career in medicine. Delivered by experienced faculty, the six-year program follows a learner-centered approach promoting independent and life-long learning skills and is supported by world-class facilities and educational technology. Benchmarked against international standards, MBRU presents students with rich and diversified learning opportunities to ensure that graduates will be well prepared with the knowledge, skills and experience to serve the community and promote excellence within the healthcare system. Admission to the program is open to all nationalities and both genders.

How long is the MBBS program at MBRU?

The program is 6 years.

How many students does MBRU plan to accept to the MBBS program?

MBRU plans to offer 70 students for the Academic Year 2019-20. Of the 70 planned offers, 50 will be available to all nationalities (UAE and non-UAE) and 20 additional offers will be slotted for qualified UAE nationals. Admission to the MBBS program is competitive. In the past two years, about 1 in 5 applicants were offered a position.

How can I apply to the MBBS program at MBRU?

Application to the MBBS program can only be submitted through our online application portal. Application to the program will open on October 15th 2018 and will close on January 15th 2019. Late applications received after January 15th 2019 will not be considered.

For your application to be complete, you will need to submit the online application here, upload all supporting documents, and pay the non-refundable application fee of AED 1,050 (1000 AED + 5% VAT).

What is the Admission Criteria for entry?

The minimum requirements for admission are outlined online here. Please note that these are minimum requirements and many applicants achieve higher scores than specified.

What documents do I need to upload as part of my application?

As part of your application, you will need to upload clear color copies of your personal and academic documents in a PDF format. A list of required documents are available here.

I applied to MBRU last year but wasn’t offered a position. Can I re-apply?

Yes, we will consider a new application. We will treat the new application as if it were the first.

What happens after I submit my application?

Please note that for your application to be considered, you have to complete the online application, upload the required documents, and pay the application fee. An experienced panel of MBRU faculty and staff will then review completed applications against our published minimum requirements. Qualified short-listed candidates will be invited for on-campus multiple mini-interviews (MMI) planned for late February. Candidates who are not invited for interviews will be notified at that time with a regret notice. Interviewed applicants will then be ranked by the admission team based on their academic qualifications and interview performance. Ranked applicants will be sent conditional offers by mid-April.

What does the interview process comprise of?

Candidates will not be offered a place at MBRU without going through the MMI process. We do not offer skype, telephone or video-linked interviews.

The MMI process will adopt a multiple-station format (typically 15). Each station will be 5 minutes long. The MMI are designed to assess the applicants on some or all of the following:

  • Communication
  • Problem solving
  • Capacity for self-reflection
  • Capacity for logical thinking
  • Understanding of professional responsibility
  • Capacity for team working

The interviews are formal but friendly. Ethical issues may be raised by the interviewers, but only to assess your ability to clearly summarize the issues at stake.

The MMIs will be scheduled for 21st, 22nd and 23rd February 2019. You will not be given a decision on the day of the interview; this will be sent to you at a later date. Applicants must notify us of any change, permanent or temporary, to their contact information.

How much are the tuition fees?

The annual tuition fee for the academic year 2019-2020 is AED 160,000 payable in two installments (by the beginning of each semester) either by cheque or bank transfer.

What are the scholarship opportunities for students of MBRU?

MBRU is keen to attract talented students and support their educational journey. Aligned with our value of giving, we have established two scholarship programs, The Future Doctors Scholarship Program provides the top ten ranked students in each cohort of the MBBS program, including the incoming class, with a 30% discount on their annual tuition fees. The Jood Scholarship Program provides 10 students with verified financial need, in each cohort of the MBBS program, up to 50% off on their annual tuition fees.

Does the University provide accommodation?

MBRU does not provide direct accommodation to students. However, we have negotiated on behalf of the students a number of private providers and would recommend you explore the following:
