MBRU Faculty Publish Findings on New Brain-related Mutations Linked to Autism

10 Aug 2017

MBRU’s faculty member Dr. Mohammed Uddin, recently published collaborative research in the field of autism in the leading international journal Nature Neuroscience.

In this study of nearly 6,000 families, Dr. Uddin, Assistant Professor of Human Genetics, MBRU College of Medicine, collaborated with leading institutions in the US and Canada such as the Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, the Hospital for Sick Children, the University of Toronto, and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard.

The breakthrough study titled “New brain-related mutations linked to autism spectrum disorder” identified, for the first time, genetic mutations related to autism that are not inherited but rather occur during the early stages of brain development. Numerous news outlets covered the new research study with Nature Middle East highlighting MBRU in its article.

We are proud that MBRU has contributed to the body of international research in the field of autism, and on a national level, the university has helped strengthen the government’s mandate through the Dubai Declaration for Autism, under the aegis of the Dubai Executive Council, to create a system of life-long care for individuals with autism.
