1. Courses and Workshops

The simulation center offers a broad range of competency and professional development training programs ranging from generic ones to tailor-made, which are designed around your specific training needs and are appropriate for participants at different levels. They generically include patient training including communication and behavior management and are carefully crafted to minimize cognitive overload.

Our courses are supported by modern training equipment and interactive educational tools to enhance the learner engagement in the sessions and to create better conducive learning spaces.

All our courses can be accredited for CME (Continuous Medical Education) points accredited by Dubai Healthcare Regulations (DHCR). We also accept courses accredited by other accreditation and regulatory bodies.

    Our courses and workshops include:

    1. Simulation-based specialized workshops
      • Basic clinical skills - An Update
      • Communication and interpersonal skills for healthcare professionals
      • Assessment and management of life-threatening emergencies at schools
      • Essentials of Infection prevention and control
      • Crisis Resource management
      • In procedural sedation and Analgesia
      • Management of depression course
      • How to assess mental health - A short course on psychiatric history taking and mental status examination
      • Systemic examination - Cardiovascular, respiratory and musculoskeletal examinations
      • Simulation course on practice of basic life support
      • Difficult airway management
      • Fundamentals of intraosseous vascular access
      • Fundamentals of trauma management
    2. AHA Courses

The center being an internationally accredited training center for American Heart Association offers the following courses:

      • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider Course [BLS]
      • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course [ACLS]
      • Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Course
      • Family & Friends CPR Course
    3. In-situ simulation

An additional service that the simulation center can offer is the provision of In-situ training. This training is carried out in an actual clinical environment and is particularly relevant to test systems, e.g., openings of new areas within hospitals and to ensure new protocols are pertinent and operational. It also enables new teams to work together within the environment.

    4. Faculty development workshops
      • Train the trainer workshops
      • Debriefing workshops
    5. Pre conference workshops and parallel sessions
  2. Curriculum design, development and implementation
    1. Simulation in Medical undergraduate program
    2. Simulation in Dental postgraduate programs
  3. Assessment design and implementation
    1. Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs)
    2. OSCEs (Objective Structured Clinical Examinations)
  4. Consultation and External services
    1. Systems testing for new services and centers
    2. Design and management systems

If you require our consultancy service on how to set up or run a simulation center or require advice on simulation equipment, please contact us.

  5. Community Engagement

Community engagement is a primary pillar of our strategy at the simulation center. In conjunction with "The Year of Giving - 2017" the simulation center along with MBRU has planned a number of in-house and community outreach programs like:

    1. Hands only CPR (HOCPR) - A community development initiative

Hands-Only CPR is CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) without mouth-to-mouth breaths. It is recommended for use by people who see a teen or adult suddenly collapse in an "out-of-hospital" setting (such as at home, at work or in a park).

The simulation center conducts HOCPR sessions regularly in alliance with other conferences and major events at MBRU as part of our commitment to raising community awareness and engagement.

    2. Teddy Bear Hospital
    3. High school program
    4. Bespoke programs for the community
    5. The pink caravan
  6. Standardized patient program (SPP)

Standardized patients are carefully recruited and trained people who portray the roles of patients, family members or others to allow students to practice physical exam skills, history taking skills, communication skills and other exercises.

The SPP at the simulation center has a bank of standardized patients from different nationalities, age, and gender. It serves a vital educational support unit at the simulation center and MBRU providing standardized patients to support the teaching and assessment needs for internal and external courses and programs.

  7. Research and Development (R&D)

In line with MBRU’s strategy on Leadership in Research; the simulation center places paramount importance to research and development in healthcare simulation.

Currently, there are ongoing projects in different fields of healthcare simulation like:

    1. Education
    2. Process Improvement
    3. Medical Errors and Injury prevention
    4. Clinical Intervention

The simulation center aims to conduct regional and international collaborative research projects in the near future.
